We are pleased to announce that digitised copies of the archive (cancelled) books for Dublin City & County, and Counties Kerry, Mayo and Tipperary are now available to view using dedicated computer facilities in the reading area of the Public Office at the Valuation Office, Irish Life Centre, Abbey Street Lower, Dublin 1.
The digitisation of these books is the first stage in a plan to create an electronic copy of the archive books for all rating authorities in the State containing the valuation records from the initial Griffith Valuation in the 1850s and 1860s. These records are of immense value in the context of the social and economic landscape of Ireland at the time and represent a unique resource for historians, genealogists and other researchers.
The next stage, due for completion in 2014, is the digitisation of the records for Cork City & County and the records for Limerick City & County; and, it is intended to continue with the digitisation of the remaining books as soon as is practicable
